2023

  • ​Welcome back to our exchange student Floris who has come back to doing his final year proejct with team water-splitting.

  • Welcome back to Thom who has been at Monash University Melbourne for the past year.

  • Welcome to our new project students Chloe, Tom and Ed who are doing thier masters projects in the group- can't wait to see what you all get up to.

September​

  • Welcome to our new PhD student Charlie who is joining the group to look at precursors for water splitting electrode materials, and welcome back Ollie, Macsen and Josh who are also starting PhD's  in the group. Ollie and Macsen will be look at developing ALD precursors and Josh will be investigating field effected AACVD precursors.

August

  •  Dr Johnson, Aidan and Ellie traveled to Wellington (New Zealand) for GTL-17; Andy presented work on new stannylene precursors for atomic layer deposition, and Aidan and Ellie presented posters on tin precursor work they had been doing. â€‹

July

  • Exciting news: The group has secured funding as part of the UKRI prosperity partnership in collaboration with Pragmatic, University of Liverpool and University of Cambridge for work on flexible electronics. Read more about it on the Uni of Bath and UKRI website!​

  • Welcoming Ollie, our previous MChem student, back to the lab for a summer project. He will be working on low-valent main group complexes.

  • Congratulations to all the Johnson group members graduating this month!

  • Ciaran and Dan have been presenting work at the AAPS CDT conference, Ciaran did a talk and Dan presented a poster- well done to both!

June 

  • The group have been at University of Bath Bolland Symposium presenting their research, special congratulations to Dan for winning the 1st year Inorganic poster prize and Max for winning the runner up Inorganic talk prize. Fabulous work from the group all round!

  • This month we said goodbye to our exchange student Floris, wishing you the best for the future.

May​ 

  • Well done to all our project students, Ollie, Macsen and Tyler, who have submitted; best of luck for the future!

  • Dr Johnson, Max, Dan and Ellie traveled to Leuven Belgium for EuroCVD/BalticALD where Dr Johnson presented ' New precursors for the Atomic Layer Deposition of p-type SnO'.

  • Our Aerosol Science CDT students, Max, Ellie and Josh, were at Leigh Court in Bristol presenting work to the other CDT cohorts, industrial partners and academics. A great opportunity to see the wide range of work going on.

April​ 

  • On the other side of the pond Max, Ci and Thom were at MRS in San Francisco. Ci and Max presented posters while Thom did a oral presentation. A great week was had by all.

  • Aidan, Dan and Ellie have been presenting posters on their work at RSC Dalton, a fantastic event with such a variety of Inorganic chemistry

  • We have a new paper out in Inorganics, featuring stannylene chemistry Hannah researched as part of her PhD. This is part of a special issue on Synergy between Main Group and Transition Metal Chemistry. Have a look here.

  • Ciaran has been sharing his work at the Inaugural AAPS CDT Conference, where he presented both a talk and a poster. Congratulations to him on winning the poster prize at this conference!

  • Congratulations to all the Johnson group members graduating this month, some of them have been waiting since 2020 for this!

  • Welcome to Dan Mason, from the AAPS CDT who has joined the group for a short summer research project ahead of starting his PhD in the group this September.

June

  • Congratulations to our own Dr Johnson who won the Excellence in Doctoral Supervision Prize, thoroughly deserved!

  • We again enjoyed the departmental Bolland Symposium where we enjoyed talks and posters from across the department and nearly all the group presented either posters or talks on their work. Congratulations to Thom and Ellie who both the 2nd year Physical and 1st Year Inorganic Poster Prizes at this year's departmental Bolland Symposium!

  • Congratulations to Dr Kerry Flanagan who has passed her PhD Viva! Thank you to Prof. Alan Welch (Heriott Watt) and Prof. Paul Raithby for examining.

  • Thom and Andy B recently attended the CSCT Summer Showcase here in Bath. Congratulations to Thom who won 1st place in the poster competition!

  • We have a new paper out in the RSC New Journal of Chemistry, featuring Thom's work on Ti nanocrystal rods in collaboration with Prof Frank Marken. Have a look here.

  • Congratulations to Dr Matt Surman, who's recently passed his PhD viva. Thank you to Prof. Ivan Parkin and Dr Ulrich Hintermeir for examining. We wish Matt all the best for his career in Finland looking at ALD precursors.

  • Our latest paper is out featuring Jamie's work in collaboration with TNO in the Netherlands on ALD precursors for SnO. Check it out here in Advanced Materials and Interfaces.

  • Congratulations to Ellie Vokes who has won the UK Aerosol Society Doctoral Student Award. The award is designed to recognise, reward and encourage doctoral students who are engaged in aerosol science.

November

  • Congratulations to Dr Emily Taylor who's passed her PhD viva. Thank you to Prof. Gill Reid and Dr Ruth Webster for examining and all the best to Emily in her career as a patent attorney.

  • Congratulations to Thom, Aidan, Ciaran and Max who have all passed their transfer vivas. Thanks to all those involved.

  • Welcome back to Ellie who is rejoining the group for her PhD as part of the Aerosol Science CDT! Having done her MChem project with us in 2019-2020 she's spent the last year working in Bristol on her MRes, and will be looking at developing precursors for inkjet printing.

  • Emily and Matt have been at the 2019 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston. Emily delivered a well-received talk on her Tin Selenide work, and Matt a poster on his iron oxide work.

  • Hannah is back in the UK! She's had a great time and the writing up phase begins now.

  • Congratulations to Star Baker Kerry, who triumphed in the Great Chemistry Bake Off.

  • Massive congratulations to Dr Parish, Dr Thongchai and our project students for graduating today!  

  • Hannah has jetted off to California to spend 3 months working with Prof. Phil P Power at University of California, Davis. Meanwhile back in Bath, congratulations Kerry on your new desk!

  • Andy, Hannah, Matt, Jerome and Emily went to sunny Luxembourg to present at EuroCVD22-Baltic ALD16. Meanwhile, Kerry travelled to Montpellier for EuroBoron 8 to showcase her work.

  • The whole group was out in force today at the Bolland Symposium 2019, Hannah and Jerome gave fantastic final year talks and special congratulations go to our poster prize winners Andy S and Emily!

  • Congratulations to Dr Pete Kubiak (a joint student with Dr Petra Cameron) who has passed his viva!

  • Hannah gave a brilliant presentation at the Bath Organometallic Synthesis Symposium (BOSS II) showcasing her recent work on group 14 pyridylamides.

  • We welcome CSCT student Andrew Brookes to the group for his second MRes project looking at the development of precursors for water-splitting materials.

May

  • Jamie, Jerome, Hannah, Miriam and Emily attended the SEMI Talent Forum at the University of Bristol. It was great to hear insights from leading industry experts in the field of semiconductor research.

  • Check out this paper on lead iodide perovskites for solar cells in Energy and Environmental Science. The product of a great collaboration from the Cameron, Islam, Lewis and Johnson groups all based here in Bath. Have a look here.

  • Have a look at Ibbi's latest work on the aerosol-assisted chemical vapour deposition of tin sulphide, published in RSC Advances. The full manuscript can be found here.
